How to get from the airport to the city?
Student hosts at the Airport and Minibus service
On July 1, 2 and 3 student hosts will wait the participants at the Airport between 8 am and 7 pm. They will be recognized by their special yellow FEBS-IUBMB T-shirt and the FEBS-IUBMB sign (see enclosed photo).

Students will show you the most convenient transport facility, the Airport Minibus service, which will bring you anywhere to the town for 10 EUR. The Airport Minibus service serves all flights (i.e. flights arriving before and after the student service as well). The Minibus Desk is conveniently located at the exit and can be found easily.

Credit cards & currency
All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, ATMs and shops. The Hungarian currency is Hungarian Forint (HUF). Though Hungary is a member of the European Union, only a few shops and restaurants accept Euros (EUR) for payment. Therefore, the exchange of your currency to Hungarian Forints or the use of cash machines is strongly suggested. Check the exchange rate at e.g. Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
A convenient Place for your Group Discussion
The Museum of Biology and Paleontology of the Faculty of Science (located in building B of the Congress Venue) is a convenient place for your possible group discussions up to 50 persons. You may inquire on the availability at the Information Desk of Building B.
Last Minute Poster Figures - Printing Service
If you have a last minute figure to your poster, or any other material you wish to print, you may do it for a moderate price at the Organizer's Room in Building A. Please look for the location in the Congress Venue.

    Anniversaries

The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) welcomes you to this meeting at which we celebrate the 50th anniversary of IUB(MB). IUBMB represents biochemists and molecular biologists in some 70 countries around the world that belong to the Union as Adhering Bodies or associated Adhering Bodies through biochemical societies, national research councils or academies of science. Four regional groupings of biochemical societies FASBMB (Africa), FAOBMB (Asia and Oceania), FEBS (Europe) and PABMB (the Americas) are also regional associated organizations of IUBMB.

The mission of IUBMB is to promote research and education in biochemistry and molecular biology throughout the world with particular attention to areas where the subject is in early development. To do so, IUBMB sponsors a triennial Congress and in intervening years Conferences and Special Meetings. The next Congress will be in 2006 in Kyoto, Japan and the next Conference in 2007 in Brazil. IUBMB provides support for symposia, educational activities and jubilee lectures at different meetings. IUBMB also uses its resources to support young scientists to attend IUBMB Congresses and sometimes IUBMB Conferences or through the Wood-Whelan Program to support short exchange visits to undertake research in another country. IUBMB publications include Trends in biochemical Sciences (TIBS) and IUBMB Life.

For further details of IUBMB activities visit the stand at the Conference or see the website www.iubmb.org

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) is committed to: "promoting understanding of the molecular nature of life processes". The Society has 12,000 members in the United States and internationally, and is based in Bethesda Maryland, on the campus of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. The Society realizes it mission through its publications (The Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), Journal of Lipid Research, Molecular and Cellular Proteomics, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education), scientific meetings, advocacy efforts to inform decisions makers of the importance of our science, and outreach to the next generation of scientists. The 100th anniversary of the JBC and the ASBMB will be celebrated in San Francisco in April 2006. Special events are being planned for the celebration including a book and compendia on the history of the Society and the JBC, and the achievements of individuals in the discipline over the last 100 years. There will be special exhibits, informal interactions of scientists that have helped shape our discipline with those who will shape the future, and entertainment as we celebrate the progress of the past, excitement of present, and the potential for future discovery and advances in biochemical and molecular sciences. For more information see our website (www.asbmb.org).

    50th Anniversary of ASBMB

The Australian Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (ASBMB) unites biochemists and molecular biologists from around Australia. ASBMB is a Constituent Society of the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB), and, through the Australian Academy of Science, is an Adhering Body of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). The major activities sponsored and coordinated by ASBMB include the national scientific conference, ComBio, and the Society magazine, The Australian Biochemist, published three times a year. The Society was established in 1955 as the Australian Biochemical Society, and thus, like IUBMB, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2005. Celebrations to mark this "Golden Jubilee" include a special issue of The Australian Biochemist, featuring historical articles, archival images and personal recollections that reflect on the first fifty years of ABS/ASBMB. Special events are also planned for the ComBio2005 conference, to be held this year from 25-29 September in Adelaide, South Australia. Further information can be found at the Society website (www.asbmb.org.au), as well as on a poster displayed during the current FEBS/IUBMB conference.

    40th Anniversary of SAIB

ARGENTINE SOCIETY FOR BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (SAIB) is a non-profit scientific organization with legal status. It is member of the Pan-American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB) and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). SAIB was one of the first scientific societies organized in the country and has interruptedly developed its Annual Meeting since 1964. His first President was Dr. Federico Leloir, who obtained the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1970. The main purposes of SAIB are: promotion of scientific exchanges between local academic institutions, relationship with similar organizations at national and international level, organization of meetings, conferences and courses in order to improve research in Biological Science in Argentina. This Meeting is held annually and represents the most important event for national scientific researchers working in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology. Most of the participants (600) are young scientist performing their Ph.D. studies at Universities and Research Centers of Argentina. Fields such as Cell Biology, Lipids, Microbiology, Signal Transduction and Plants are covered through the development of plenary lectures, symposia, communications and posters and all presentations are published in the BioCell Journal (ISSN 0327-9545).

In order to maintain the local community aware of the last advances in different areas SAIB invites every year prominent scientists from abroad. In December 2005 the society will celebrate the meeting together with the Pan-American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PABMB).

The actual President, Vice-President and Former-President of the society are:
