The Second George Gamow Competition for Hungarian Participants

announces

The Second Hungarian George Gamow Competition and Travel Fellowship

to facilitate the further development of bioinformatics. The Travel Fellowship will provide
2000-1500-1000-500 Euros
to the winners of the Competition.

The competition is opened to any persons who are postdoctoral fellows (or above) and are affiliated to a Hungarian University or High School. Teem-work will also be accepted as well as works from the winners of the previous GG competition.

The candidates are asked to choose one or more subject (of four) to compete and are asked to complete a preliminary registration by as soon as possible. The purpose of registration is to continuously provide information to the participants of the competition, therefore late registration is possible, but not recommended.

The subjects of the competition are the followings:

  • S1_2005: Study of distribution, frequency, patterns of human repeating sequences- "SeqRep" program.
  • S2_2005: The BlastNP. A novel sequence similarity-searching tool.
  • S3_2005: Common Periodic Table of Overlapping Codons and Overlappingly Translated Nucleic Acids.
  • S4_2005: A JAVA tool to estimate and visualize structural complexity of nucleic acids. The "SeqPlot".

Deadline of the competition is August 20th, 2005. Language of the competition is English. Please send your manuscript (max 10 printed pages) to jan.biro@sbcglobal.net and benyo@mit.bme.hu The result of the competition will be announced and the prizes will be provided in October 2005.
